Skandamata is worshipped on the Fifth day of Navratri. The 5th day of Navratri is dedicated to worship of Goddess Skandamata . - the 5th form of NavDurga. The fifth day of the Navratri festival is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Skandamata., the devotees observe and perform Skandamata Puja on the fifth day. Skandamātā is the fifth form of Hindu Goddess Durga. Literally meaning Mother of Skanda, her name comes from word, Skanda is another name for war god and her son Kartikeya and Mata is the term for mother.As one of the Navadurga, Her worship takes place on the fifth day of Navaratri(the nine divine nights of Navadurga).

As per the Hindu beliefs, Goddess Skandamata symbolizes the fifth form of Goddess Durga. As per the Hindu scriptures, it is believed that when Maa Parvati became the mother of Lord Skanda who is also popularly known as Lord Kartikeya, since then she is known as Skanda Mata. Planet Buddha is believed to be governed by Goddess Skandamata Skandamata is four-armed and rides on a lion. She carries a lotus. Her one hand is in blessing posture. Lord Skanda can be seen in her lap.

She possesses four arms out of which two often hold the lotus flowers. One of her hands is always in the boon-conferring gesture and with the other she holds her son Skanda in her lap. Her complexion is white and she is seated on the lotus. So, she is also called Goddess with a lotus-seat- Padmasana. The lion is her vehicle. It is regarded as one of the most significant and aspiring forms of Goddess Durga where Maa Durga as Skandamata Devi carry her divine child Lord Kartikeya as an infant. The deity appears highly benevolent and joyful in such appearance. The face of Goddess Skandamata showers affection and love on her devotees similar to the way she loves and protects her own son Kartikeya.kandamata is signified as a symbol of a relationship between a child and a mother. Significance of puja- It is believed that she awards devotees with salvation, power, prosperity and treasures.
